The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted its annual fundraising Met gala this Monday, to celebrate the new exhibition “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” It was held on the second Monday in September instead of the first Monday in May, but stars turned out in their finest nonetheless.
Co-chairs Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, Amanda Gorman, and Timothée Chalamet led the charge for young stars, shining in their varied outfits (Chalamet wore sweats; Eilish paid homage to Marilyn Monroe).
Kim Kardashian made headlines in her black Balenciaga ensemble consisting of a black t-shirt with a train, black tights, and—oh yeah—a black mask that completely covered her face. Only Kim could become one of the night’s most-talked about without even showing her face.
Justin and Hailey Bieber looked dapper in a black suit by Justin’s own label Drew House for him, a slinky black dress by Saint Laurent for her. They, along with many other celebs, posed for Vogue on the rooftop of the museum.
Speaking of couples, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky turned up fashionably late to the gala, but their first red carpet appearance as a couple was more than worth it. However, the biggest romantic gesture of the night had to be Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s masked kiss. While following COVID-19 protocols, they still gave the people what they wanted.
